Stand West designs and Hand makes a range of luxury, eco-conscious accessories, using naturally Dyed, Organic fabrics and repurposed materials.

I GREW UP IN TWO VERY DIFFERENT REGIONS OF THE UNITED STATES. THE MAJORITY OF MY CHILDHOOD WAS SPENT IN THE COLORADO MOUNTAINS IN A LOVELY CITY NAMED EVERGREEN. MY SUMMERS WERE SPENT IN OHIO WITH MY GRANDMOTHER, PATRICIA - a KIND, COURAGEOUS AND CREATIVE WOMAN AND THE REASON I AM A MAKER TODAY.

THROUGHOUT MY TIME WITH HER SHE IMPACTED ME SO MUCH so THAT IT LEAD ME TO PASSIONATELY PURSUE textile art, using plant based dyes that are mostly foraged from the San Francisco bay area.

SOME OF MY EARLIEST MEMORIES ARE OF HER HEMMING MY MOTHERS FLIGHT ATTENDANT UNIFORMS SO THAT THEY FIT HER PERFECTLY or PATCHING THE HOLES IN MY GRANDFATHERS JEANS FROM WORKING LONG HARD HOURS IN CONSTRUCTION. THERE WAS SO MUCH LOVE POURED INTO EVERY STITCH THAT I COULD PHYSICALLY FEEL THE WARMTH OF HER ENERGY OVERFLOW ONTO ME. IF I COULDN'T FIND HER INSIDE I KNEW TO LOOK FOR HER IN THE GARDEN, WHERE SHE WOULD TALK TO ME ABOUT LIVING FROM THE LAND AND TEACH ME TO PRESERVE OUR CROPS FOR THE WINTER. WHAT WE COULDN'T EAT WE WOULD CAN. EVEN NOW I CAN CLOSE MY EYES TO SEE HER DARK Ohio BASEMENT SHELVES FILLED WITH MASON JARS FULL OF TOMATOES, GREEN BEANS, PICKLES AND JAM. BECAUSE OF HER WE ATE DELICIOUS HOME GROWN FOOD ALL YEAR AND NOTHING WENT TO WASTE.

To Patricia, THESE TEACHINGS WERE COMMON KNOWLEDGE. She shared them with me and I am excited to share them with you.

we love sewing and believe in it. the art of sewing provides the invisible thread that literally holds together the world we know. It is everywhere, from the clothes we wear to the sails that enabled the discovery of America. it is in our shoes and bags, the seats on the bus and lurks quietly all around the home. it is best friend to the upholsterer, the seamstress, and tailor, the diva and the surgeon, and it is as ancient as time itself... Before television, radio, and writing, it kept busy the hands of millions, creating warmth, comfort, art and expression. It still does.
